Opening Ceremony and Session of the New 22nd FSM Congress to be Held Virtually “Across All Micronesia”

May 7, 2021. Colonia, Yap.The Yap Congressional Delegation Office is pleased to announce that the first ever Virtual Opening Ceremony of the 22nd FSM Congress will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 10AM.

This Opening Ceremony is the first Session day of the new 22nd FSM Congress, during which the recently elected Members of Congress for the 2-year seats from the States of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap will take their oaths of office as Senators, and appoint the new leadership for the Congressional body and its standing committees.

Senator Isaac V. Figir of Yap, being the most-senior returning Member-elect, as per Official Rules of Procedure for Congress, will preside as Temporary Speaker over the opening Session day until the Congressional body elects the Speaker for the 22nd FSM Congress.

In his invitation letter to the State leaders, TH Wesley W. Simina, current Speaker for the 21st FSM Congress, connotes unity and national pride saying that this event will truly be "across all Micronesia" - a line from the FSM National Anthem. In a time, which the Speaker calls the “new normal provided by the COVID19 world”, the FSM Congress strives to carry on its work virtually with this event to be live streamed nationwide and with the Member-Elects remotely participating from different locales across the region.

The general public is encouraged to join this national celebration across all Micronesia and abroad by watching and listening to the live event. The Virtual Opening Ceremony and Session of the 22nd FSM Congress will be aired on the local radio stations and televised on the FSM Congress Live Streaming YouTube Channel and on the FSM Congress website at www.cfsm.gov.fm on Tuesday, May 11th at 10AM Yap Time.
