PALIKIR, POHNPEI. September 18, 2020 – A supplemental budget, funding for fire relief efforts in the United States and a ceiling resolution were the measured passed at the end of Week One of the Fifth Regular Session of the 21st Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia.
The 5th Regular Session had convened on Monday to address the FSM National Government Budget for Fiscal Year 2021 and other matters pending before the Congress. With the final stages of budget consolidations underway among the various congressional committees, the Congress turned its attention to other pending matters and passed the following measures:
- Congressional Resolution CR 21-192, was adopted to set a ceiling of the total funds estimated available for appropriation from the FSM General Fund for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2020;
- Congressional Act 20-188,appropriated $300,000 for the purpose of funding relief efforts in the United States, specifically the US West Coast states of California, Oregon and Washington that were recently ravaged by huge wildfires; and
- Congressional Act 20-189, appropriated additional funding of $2,503,500 for FY 2020, in order to provide supplemental funding for the operations of the FSM National Government, and for other purposes.
Following the adoption of the measures, the Congress went into recess to reconvene on Monday, September 2, 2020.
As a Regular Session of the Congress, the current session is scheduled for 20-days, from 14 September to 03 October, unless shortened or extended by resolution.
With respect to the advisories from the State Governments and the FSM National Government discouraging public gathering and encouraging social distancing, the 5th Regular Session of the 21st Congress is closed to the general public.
