
PALIKIR,POHNPEI. JANUARY 09, 2026– Speaker Esmond B. Moses and Members of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia welcomed a Parliamentary Delegation visiting from the National Diet of Japan.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the delegation is from the House of Councilors of the National Diet of Japan and visiting the Nation for research purposes into the effectiveness of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) to the FSM. The delegation conducted various site inspections in areas with ODA supported projects along with courtesy visits to the leadership of the Nation and the state of Pohnpei.
On the afternoon of January 09, 2026, Speaker Moses along with Senator Fabian S. Nimea and Senator Jermy W. Mudong welcomed the Japanese parliamentarians headed by Toshiharu Furukawa of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan; Taro Yamada – Liberal Democratic Party of Japan; Jiro Hata – Constitutional Democratic Party; and Mami Tamura – Democratic Party for the People. The delegation is accompanied by the Japan Ambassador to the FSM, His Excellency Nobuo Kagomiya.
The visiting delegation was received at the Congress public hearing room by Speaker and the Members where a courtesy visit ensued over general matters of mutual interests and relations. At the end of the courtesy visit, the delegation was treated to a traditional dance from the outlying islands in the state of Yap before continuing their scheduled courtesy visits to the leadership of the national and state governments.
On behalf of the Nation’s leadership, Speaker Moses hosted the Parliament Delegation to a dinner reception to wrap up the day’s courtesy visits and share more of the Nation’s culture. President Wesley W. Simina, Senator Peter M Christian and Governor Stevenson A. Joseph of Pohnpei State and the First Lady joined Speaker Moses and Mrs. Moses for the evening’s reception. A traditional sakau ceremony preceded the evening’s dinner followed by a traditional performance by the U Youth Group to conclude a busy and full day for the visiting Parliamentary Delegation from the National Diet of Japan.
