Speaker Moses meets with Ambassador Ertugrul of Turkiye

On February 6, 2026, a courtesy call was requested by the Turkish Ambassador-Designate, Oguzhan Ertugrul to meet with Speaker Esmond B. Moses to discuss matters of mutual diplomatic interests. Ambassador Ertugrul was accompanied by Mr. Ahmed Burak Aydogdu, Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkiye.

Beginning discussions centered on potential collaboration in commercial trade, tourism, and the sharing of skills in capacity-building infrastructure between the two nations. Ambassador Ertugrul pointed out the geographical distance and the current length of the existing airport runway within the F.S.M. as practical constraints that could limit the ability of standard airline vessels currently servicing Turkiye. Speaker Moses informed Ambassador Ertugrul that future plans for a runway extension are in the making.

Ambassador Ertugul extended an invitation to Speaker Moses to attend the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly that Turkiye will be hosing in Istanbul within the coming months. Ambassador Ertugrul stressed the importance of international cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy is much needed now than in the past years to foster awareness for both countries to tackle global issues. Some of the topics to be covered during the IPU are climate change, food security, eradication of poverty and human and health rights to name a few.

The meeting concluded on a positive note with Speaker Moses agreeing to delegate members of Congress to attend the IPU, with mutual reaffirmations to further strengthen diplomatic relationships between the two countries.
