3rd Special Session adjourns with Acts & Resolutions for 2021

PALIKIR, POHNPEI. The 22nd Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia adjourned its 3rd Special Session on December 17, 2021, with the following Congressional Acts and Resolutions.

CA 22-66 & CA 22-67 are congressional acts to change the use or allottee of funds previously appropriated therein, to fund public projects and social programs for both the states of Pohnpei and Kosrae, and for other purposes. In the same manner and specific to both the states of Yap and Chuuk is CA 22-68; for individual states we have CA 22-70 for the state of Kosrae, CA 22-69 for the state of Chuuk, and CA 22-65 for the state of Pohnpei.

The 22nd Congress joins the leadership and citizens of the Nation in mourning of the passing of Mrs. Christina “Kiki” Poll Stinnet through condolence resolution CR 22-85. Mrs. Stinnet was a staunch advocate for the empowerment and equality of women, and a dedicated businesswoman, community organizer, and a member of various community boards and civic organizations in Chuuk and throughout the FSM.

On a lighter note, the Congress confirms the nomination of Mr. Nena C. Ned through CR 22-83. The Congress has considered Mr. Nena’s nomination and acknowledges his professional experience and qualifications making him a suitable candidate to serve as a member of the FSM Social Security Board of Directors.

The FSM is anticipating two donated patrol boats from the Government of Australia and in honor of the late Mr. Bethwel Henry, the first Speaker of the FSM Congress, the Congress is requesting the President through CR 22-84 to rechristen one of the donated marine vessels after the former speaker.

The United States Department of Education is to fund and support the Federated States of Micronesia in its project entitled: “CURRENT”– a commitment to retaining teachers. CR 22-79 is approving and accepting the grant in the amount of $250,000 to assist the FSM in its project for its first year spanning from October 2021 to September 2022. The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia wishes to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Government of the United States of America for this generous grant.

The Asian Development Bank issued a Grant Award on November 15, 2021 to the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia in the amount of $5,000,000 for the purpose of providing support to the FSM Sustainable Road infrastructure Investment Project. The Congress through CR 22-82 approves the award and wishes to express its appreciation and gratitude to the ADB for extending this grant.

The 3rd Special Session adjourned sine-die on December 18, 2021. Unless a special session is earlier called by the Speaker, the next Regular Session of the Congress is scheduled for January 10, 2022.
